How to Structure 7 Days in South Korea

Most first-time visitors try to cram in Seoul, Busan, and two or three side trips, then spend half the week on transit. A better split for 7 days:

• Days 1-4: Seoul
• Days 5-6: Busan
• Day 7: Travel day back, or a short stop in Gyeongju/Jeonju en route

Days 1-4: Seoul

Day 1 — Arrive, drop bags, walk Myeongdong (명동) for dinner. Don't plan anything demanding; flights from North America or Europe leave most people tired by afternoon.

Day 2 — Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁, Line 3, Gyeongbokgung Station Exit 5), Bukchon Hanok Village, Insadong (인사동) for tea houses and galleries. Entry to the palace is around ₩3,000; free if you wear hanbok rental.

Day 3 — Choose Gangnam for shopping and cafés, or Seongsu (성수) for the warehouse-café and pop-up scene — both are covered in more detail elsewhere on this site.

Day 4 — Keep the morning light (a market, a coffee shop, last-minute shopping), then head to Seoul Station or Suseo Station for your KTX to Busan.

Getting from Seoul to Busan

The KTX high-speed train covers Seoul Station to Busan Station in around 2.5-2.75 hours. Book through the Korail app or website; standard seats run roughly ₩59,000-65,000 one-way, discounted a bit if booked early or off-peak.

Buy tickets via the Korail Talk app in advance for weekend travel — seats sell out, especially around Korean holidays.

Days 5-6: Busan

Busan spreads out more than Seoul, so plan by district rather than trying to see everything.

Day 5 — Haeundae Beach (해운대) and Dongbaek Island walkway in the morning, then Gwangalli Beach (광안리) at sunset for the Gwangan Bridge view. Seafood dinner in the area runs roughly ₩30,000-50,000 per person.

Day 6 — Jagalchi Fish Market (자갈치시장) for breakfast/lunch, then Gamcheon Culture Village (감천문화마을) for the colorful hillside houses — go early to avoid tour bus crowds. In the afternoon, Taejongdae (태종대) for coastal cliffs, reached by the hop-on shuttle from the park entrance (around ₩4,000).

Busan's subway is simple (two main lines cover most tourist stops), but taxis are cheap enough that splitting fares between two or more people is often worth it for hillside spots like Gamcheon.

Day 7: Return or Extend

Three realistic options for the last day:

1. Fly out of Gimhae International Airport (Busan) instead of backtracking to Seoul — saves a KTX trip if your international flight allows it.
2. KTX back to Seoul for a final half-day of shopping before an evening or next-morning flight from Incheon.
3. Stop in Gyeongju (about 30 minutes from Busan by KTX or bus) for a half-day of temples and the Bulguksa/Seokguram area before continuing north.

Whichever you choose, confirm your Incheon departure terminal in advance — Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are far apart and require different airport transit connections.

Budget and Payment Notes

Expect to spend, per person excluding flights and hotels: ₩150,000-250,000 for the week on food, ₩120,000-140,000 on KTX round trip, and ₩50,000-80,000 on local transit and attraction entries. Packing and Timing Tips

• Luggage: KTX has limited overhead space; oversized suitcases are awkward. Pack light or ship bags ahead via hotel-to-hotel courier services (ask your hotel front desk).
• Season: Spring (April) and fall (October) are the most comfortable weather windows for walking-heavy days in both cities.
• Pace: Two full cities in a week is doable but tiring — resist adding a third city (like Jeonju) unless you're comfortable cutting a day from Seoul or Busan instead.
