Gimhae Airport to Busan: Limousine Bus, Taxi or Light Rail

Gimhae International Airport (김해국제공항, airport code PUS) sits in Gangseo-gu, on the western edge of Busan. It is nowhere near the beach and nowhere near the old downtown. Every arriving traveler faces the same question: bus, taxi, or the light rail into the city.

The right answer depends on where you're staying. Distance changes everything here. Seomyeon is the closest of the three hubs. Nampo sits a bit further southwest along the old harbor. Haeundae is the farthest, out past the Suyeong River on the coast. Below is what each mode actually costs and takes, so you can pick with your suitcase already in hand.

Limousine Bus (리무진 버스): Best for Haeundae and Big Luggage

Airport limousine buses leave from marked stops just outside both the international and domestic arrival halls. They run non-stop or with only a couple of stops to the major districts. That matters most for Haeundae, since neither taxi nor light rail beats a direct coastal bus over that distance.

Expect a one-way fare somewhere in the ₩7,000-10,000 range, payable by cash, T-money, or card as you board. Journey time runs roughly 40-50 minutes to Seomyeon, 50-65 minutes to Nampo, and 70-90 minutes to Haeundae, depending on traffic on the bridges into the city. Buses typically run from early morning until around 9-10pm, with departures every 20-40 minutes. Confirm the current timetable at the airport information desk, since frequency and last-departure times shift by season.

Luggage racks under the bus make this the easiest choice for two large suitcases. You also get a guaranteed seat, unlike a packed subway car during rush hour.

Taxi from Gimhae Airport: Fastest Door-to-Door, at a Price

A regular orange taxi from the rank outside arrivals runs on the meter. Rough fare bands: ₩15,000-20,000 to Seomyeon, ₩20,000-25,000 to Nampo, and ₩35,000-45,000 to Haeundae. Deluxe (black) taxis and international taxis cost more, generally 20-30% above the standard meter rate.

Speed is the taxi's real selling point. No transfers. No timetable. Figure 25-35 minutes to Seomyeon, 30-45 minutes to Nampo, and 45-70 minutes to Haeundae in normal traffic. Rush hour on the Namhae Expressway stretches every one of those numbers. A taxi is also the only realistic option once buses and light rail stop running late at night, or before either starts running for the first flights out.

Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit (BGL): Cheapest, With One Transfer

The Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit (부산김해경전철), a driverless automated line, has its own Gimhae Airport station built against the terminal. It runs directly to Sasang Station (사상역), where it meets Busan Subway Line 2.

This is where routes split. Line 2 continues from Sasang through Seomyeon and on toward Centum City and Haeundae without a second transfer. Nampo sits on Line 1, so getting there means one more change at Seomyeon Station.

Fares run on the same T-money integrated system used across Busan transit. Base light rail fare is roughly ₩1,400-1,500, with the subway leg added under the citywide transfer discount rather than charged again from zero. Total cost lands around ₩1,500-2,700 depending on how many legs you ride, well under both bus and taxi. Total travel time runs about 40-50 minutes to Seomyeon, 55-70 minutes to Nampo, and 65-85 minutes to Haeundae, transfer walks included.

The catch is stairs. Plenty of them. Not every station has a working elevator. Hauling two checked bags through a transfer at Sasang or Seomyeon during evening rush hour is unpleasant. Which One Should You Actually Take

Heading to Seomyeon with one bag and no rush? Take the light rail. It's the cheapest option by a wide margin, and the transfer at Sasang is straightforward.

Heading to Haeundae, especially with kids or heavy luggage, the limousine bus is worth the extra won. It's a direct seat. No stairs, no transfer. The fare gap against a taxi is significant over that distance.

Landing after the trains stop, or before they start: taxi is your only real option. Budget for the higher Haeundae fare. Confirm your hotel address is loaded in Korean on the driver's navigation, since English street names don't always match what's in the system.

Traveling to Nampo for the markets and old town, either the bus or the light rail works. The bus skips the extra transfer.
