How Myeongdong is laid out

Myeongdong is a compact grid between four subway stations: Myeongdong (Line 4), Euljiro 1-ga (Line 2), Euljiro 3-ga (Lines 2/3) and City Hall (Lines 1/2). The center of the grid is the street market — great at 19:00, loud until midnight.

The three best blocks

1. Near Euljiro 1-ga Station

One block north of the market. Business hotels here are newer, quieter, and Line 2 takes you to Hongdae and Gangnam without transfers.

2. Myeongdong Station Exit 3–4 side

The southern edge, at the foot of Namsan. Slightly uphill, noticeably calmer, and you can walk to the Namsan cable car.

3. City Hall / Sogong-dong

The luxury corner — heritage hotels and department stores. You pay for location you could get cheaper two blocks east, but the quality floor is high.

What to check before booking

• Window note: many budget hotels in the grid have interior-facing or frosted windows. Check reviews for "no view" complaints if that matters to you.
• Airport bus stop: several limousine bus routes stop at Myeongdong Station and major hotels — check whether yours is on route 6015 or 6001.
• Late check-in: street noise peaks 20:00–23:00. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a high floor away from the market side.

When to book

Myeongdong is the first Seoul district to sell out in cherry-blossom season (late March–mid April) and autumn foliage weeks (late October–early November). Book 4–8 weeks ahead for those windows.
